An exceptional camera for the price September 4, 2010 Grant This camera is a replacement for my wife's older digital camera for carrying in her purse or pocket. She still wanted it compact with the convenience of using easily available AA batteries. The camera that this Canon A1100 IS replaced was only three years old but it had a typical problem of unacceptable shutter lag. This Canon is quite adequate in regards to it having very short first and succeeding shot delays.
'Regarding battery life.' Two AA batteries are not going to give you as many photo shots as rechargeable dedicated batteries. You should not have any problem as long as you are aware of this and keep spare batteries available. For longer battery life you can turn off the LCD display when you are in brighter areas and use the viewfinder We have been able to exceed well over one hundred shots even with the LCD display on one set of AAs. This included reviewing, erasing, and editing photos
'Optical viewfinder.' In some of the reviews there was some complaints regarding the size and accuracy of the viewfinder. At least this camera has one. It is getting rare to find point and shoot digital cameras with one. It is a matter of squeezing in a larger LCD display with the more compact cameras with little or no room for a viewfinder. There are times I still like a viewfinder for quick shots.
'The macro mode' This is excellent on this camera. I took some photos well within two inches of the subject with excellent results.
'The owner's manual.' The supplied CD user guide is one of the better ones I have seen. I think it is well written, particulary for people that are less familiar with digital cameras. I would still suggest making a print out of the manual for convenience. The printed 'quick start guide' is the best I have ever seen.
We have several digital cameras that range from ultra compacts to DSLRs. This is one camera that I suspect we will use often. All in all this is a fun to use little camera. My only regret is that instead of getting the green we should have gotten the pink one 'and' a blue one.
Fuzzy August 30, 2010 C.M.77 I had 3mp and 8mp cameras that I feel took better pictures. Most of my problems were with indoor pictures coming out fuzzy and/or pixelated. There is an easy setting and even with using this function I still had poor picture quality. I know this has a 12.1 MP, but to me it is of no use if the pictures come out the way they did. I did read the manual and even with following the suggestions for taking picutres I still had this problem. HOWEVER, As far as taking "posed" shots in very good lighting the pictures came out GREAT, but for taking those pictures of activities, especially indoors (yes I did use flash), I have many poor images of great memories. I am definitely not a "technical" type person, but with owning two other digital cameras I didn't have this type of a problem. It seems like an easy to use camera, So I guess that is why I am so disappointed that I had this problem.
FANTASTIC CAMERA August 30, 2010 TERRY THIS IS A GREAT CAMERA. THE ZOOM IS EXCELLENT AND THE SETTINGS ARE SO EASY. THIS IS THE BEST CAMERA I HAVE PURCHASED EVER. RECOMMEND THIS HIGHLY ESPECIALLY IF YOU WANT SIMPLE, GREAT PICTURES AND THE STABILIZATION IS EXCELLENT.
viewfinder August 30, 2010 Irvin Kues 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Last of the compact cameras with a viewfinder. Image stabilizaton, advanced electronics, 2 aa batteries, and many options. A really great camera. Only negative , there is no user manual-only a cd. This presents a problem when you are travelling and need to check something.
Great little camera August 28, 2010 ceomom Love this camera and I keep it in my bag at all times. It takes great photos for every day snapshots when a dslr is not convenient to carry. The only complaint I have is the lack of a Sports mode. The Children and Pets mode is the closest I can find and it does an alright job with kids. However, although I've gotten a few good sports shots with it, it's still on the slow side and not fast enough to catch some of the best action shots.
